Science books for kids are great ways to help your child improve their analytical skills and to become more knowledgeable about science, nature and technology in a fun way. Science books for kids provide children a great way to learn outside of school. Here are a few tips when choosing science books for your children.
1) Illustrations and/or pictures. Remember that a science book for kids should not be a university or grad level book. If the book your choose has too much wording and too little pictures or illustrations, your child will easily become bored, and chances is that he or she not want to finish the science book on a volunteer basis.
2) Accurate information. Science books for kids should give accurate information. While some books are timeless (books for toddlers about the human body, books that talks about red blood cells, books about mammals, books about plants), you should be careful about other books, such as books related to technology, as technology is constantly changing. The same applies to astronomy and space book. Remember that Pluto was taken off the planet of our solar system, therefore, buying an old book about astronomy could have some inaccuracies about the planets of our solar system. Finally, other books, not necessarily science books, also change constantly, such as history and geography. Remember that the U.R.S.S. is not part of our map anymore, and that older books may be talking about the international space station as a future project…
3) Activities and experiments. Because most children like to try new things. And what is the best way to learn and remember than by trying. Children will remember must better and faster the cycle of a plant if you plant a seed with them and follow the growth of the plant, or will understand much better what osmosis or what friction is if you can demonstrate them the notions.

I bought that book for my eldest, 4 years ago, and still use it, whether it is for my eldest or my youngest. This book is amazing as it is full of interesting activities to do and is suitable for children of all ages. There is literally one activity for every day of the year. Chances are that you will not do more than 1-3 activities per weekend, so this book should last you a couple of years! And they are timeless activities, that can be done over and over again, and can be easily adapted for different age ranges. Next time your child says, “I’m boreeeedd”, you will know what book to get them. Plus the book is more than just a kids nature book, it also contains a whole bunch of games to play, and poems to read. Your child and yourself will learn a lot with this book, 100% guareentee fun for everybody. Just to show you how great is that book, my eight years old daughter 3rd grade teacher even referenced her book for a few of the outdoor class activities. The teacher eventually bought the book for herself and currently uses it as one of her main book to teach students about science. She readapts the activities by adding more information from other textbooks and her own information sheets. A must have book for every child and parent!

Both my boys love it, and even my daughter likes to read it when the two brothers are not fighting over it! I saw some reviewers complaining that the information wasn’t complete or that they couldn’t find every single animals they were looking for… To those people, I would like to remind them that this is a not an encyclopedia. For 30 bucks, you can’t expect to have the full 2 millions classified species estimated by the “Animal.” World Book Encyclopedia. BUT to the people who like you and me, are simply looking for an animal book full of amazing photography, interesting facts and detailed information good enough for the common people like you and me who are not looking into writing a PhD about wildlife, or writing their own science books for kids, this book is highly recommended. I was myself highly impressed with the the size of the book (over 600 pages) and the quality of the pictures found throughout the book. Whenever we go on vacation, we bring this book with us, and kids like to quizz each other about fun facts and even about more scientific questions, such as the kingdom name, the family name, the order name, the species name, the habitat, etc, of a given animal. I am always so amazed at how much information a child can remember. This books not only covers the common animals (panthers, lions, giraffe) but also cover a whole bunch even parents may never have heard of. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has some interest in animals and, this, regardless of your age. Happy reading!
In this blog, Science books for kids, I will share with you all my new science books and other books for kids findings.
I have two boys, 4 years old, 12 years old and one 7 years old daughter. Let’s say that I have had the chance to see and experiment a lot of books, and believe me, I have seen many books! While it is a pleasure to introduce books to my 7 years old daughter, my 12 years old boy had no interest whatsoever in books. This is typical for most boys, and when it happens, you simply have to look a little bit harder. While most girls will simply love reading, boys need to have some sort of appeal (jokes, funny stuff, dinosaurs, etc) to be able to show some interest.
